Invertigo Dance Theatre presents their new show “Reeling” on Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Moss Theatre in Santa Monica, and then tours it to San Diego Oct. 16 and 17, and Santa Barbara Nov. 7 and 8. “Reeling” is an hour-long dance theater work that follows eight lonely hearts as they blur boundaries between love and sensuality, passion and danger, spectator and performer, flirtation versus provocation, during a night out in a dive bar.

Culture Spot LA readers can win a pair of tickets to the show. Email editor@culturespotla.com with “Invertigo” in the subject line with your choice of date.

Founded in 2007 by Artistic Director Laura Karlin, Invertigo Dance Theatre has made a name for itself by re-defining how people experience dance. Invertigo draws new audiences to contemporary movement through accessible, fresh, vibrant, approachable and engaging pieces in traditional and non-traditional dance spaces. For example, “Reeling” is a modern dance show, but company members draw upon a number of different mediums as they tell this story, including spoken word, music making, cell phones and audience participation.

Their unconventional methods are working: Invertigo sold out a three-weekend run in Los Angeles with its October 2014 presentation of “After It Happened” at the Odyssey Theatre. Invertigo has performed original evening-length and shorter works across LA, in venues including the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ford Amphitheatre, Los Angeles Theatre Center, Grand Park and the Broad Stage. In addition, they are expanding their Dancing Through Parkinson’s program, which provides donation-based classes to people living with degenerative conditions, and the Invert/ED program provides a range of dance education and performance opportunities to local schoolchildren.

The company was named one of the six trend-setting companies to watch in Los Angeles by Dance Spirit Magazine and recently announced as a Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) program grant recipient.

The Moss Theatre is located at Herb Alpert Educational Village, 3131 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica 90404. Tickets are $27 ($45 VIP on Friday and Sunday). Saturday’s performance is followed by a gala (tickets $125 single, $200 couple). For tickets and more information, visit www.invertigodance.org/reeling.
