In case you haven’t been able to secure tickets for Yayoi Kusama’s “Infinity Mirrors” at the Broad, we found something that sounds just as visually fantastic and mind-blowing: “The Hubble Cantata.”

Presented by the Ford Theatres and LA Opera, “The Hubble Cantata” allows the audience to “float within” recreations of iconic Hubble Space Telescope imagery. But this experience is not just visually amazing — it combines a virtual reality film with live performance by superstars Nathan Gunn and Jessica Rivera, LA Opera Orchestra, LA Opera Chorus and Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. LA Opera will boldly go on this voyage through the universe on one day only: Wed., Oct. 11, at 8 p.m.

“The Hubble Cantata” features music by composer Paola Prestini, libretto by Royce Vavrek and Eliza McNitt’s virtual reality film, “Fistful of Stars.” During this five-minute film, viewers are transported to the Orion Nebula where they experience the birth, life and death of a star.

If you can’t already imagine the sensation, consider this review by Sarah Larson in The New Yorker:When the scrim read ‘Astronauts, Get Ready,’ there was a blast of excitement in the audience. Then a familiar curved shape, glowing with light: Earth, our old friend, our home. We floated into it. It astounded me, this feeling of [being] above Earth, and tears began to emerge.”
