Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA All Over the City

January 9, 2018 | By Benn Widdey | Category: Art and Museums, Entertainment and Events, Theater and Dance

Starting Thursday, Jan. 11, and running through Sunday, Jan. 21, a slew of local performing spaces — both indoors and out — will host PACIFIC STANDARD TIME: LA/LA. An international festival of large and small-scale live art, the event features more than 75 works by Latin American and Latino artists.

With over 200 performers sharing their ideas in 25 sites throughout greater Los Angeles, the Getty Foundation-led project showcases works by Latin American, Latino and Chicano artists from a dozen countries. Select Los Angeles artists and organizations also jump into the exciting mix.

Partnering with Getty are theaters including REDCAT, 18th Street Art Center, The Armory Center for the Arts, The Broad, Hammer Museum, Human Resources LA, LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions), The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Machine Project, The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), USC Roski School of Art & Design, Self Help Graphics & Art, Skirball Cultural Center, and the Vincent Price Art Museum.

Mark Murphy, executive director of REDCAT, says, “Many of these influential artists are confronting urgent topics, building on the traditions of performance art practice in Latin America and Southern California that are deeply rooted in a history of political and social activism, protest, and struggles for human rights and against colonialism.”

Lots to choose! From free community-based projects in neighborhood parks to site-specific installations, gallery performances, theatrical productions and art-making workshops. A January storm of live art!
