A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Add this to your holiday to-do list: See Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at A Noise Within. It’s only one of the best stories ever written, and in the hands of this incredibly talented classical repertory theater company, it is pure magic.

Producing Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott have been doing this show for six years, and have it down. Every aspect, from inventive costumes to superb lighting design, is top-notch. With the incredible acting on display, it’s impossible to choose a favorite character. Would it be Deborah Strang’s dream-like Ghost of Christmas Past, Christopher Franciosa’s spellbinding Marley, Elliott’s multilayered Scrooge (who never ventures into caricature), Frederick Stuart’s compelling Narrator…?

And it’s impossible not to get swept up in the magic onstage. I couldn’t believe how fast an hour and a half went by. When the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come showed up, I was as surprised as Scrooge. So, go! And get your holidays off to a beautiful start.
