			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the first woman to head a major American orchestra and recently inducted into the Classical Music Hall of Fame, Musical America&#8217;s 2009 Conductor of the Year Marin Alsop makes her Orange County debut, leading the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in its first West Coast tour in 24 years. On March 28 at <a href="http://www.philharmonicsociety.org/Events/?i=488">Segerstrom Concert Hall</a>, hear an exciting and primal showcase of the orchestra&#8217;s rhythm section in a performance of Jennifer Higdon&#8217;s Grammy Award-winning <em>Percussion Concerto</em>, a 25-minute work featuring an extensive dialogue between the soloist and the orchestra and written especially for the featured percussion soloist, Colin Currie. Other works include Aaron Copland&#8217;s beloved <em>Fanfare for the Common Man</em>, Prokofiev&#8217;s Fifth Symphony and Joan Tower&#8217;s <em>Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman</em>.</p>
