Based in West LA, the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is hosting its third annual Dance at the Odyssey festival Jan. 17 through Feb. 10. Each weekend highlights a different choreographer or company on various performance schedules.

This Thursday, Jan. 17, through Sunday, Jan. 20, L.A. Contemporary Dance Company presents “The Only Constant” for shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Featuring new work created by company artistic director and choreographer, Genevieve Carson, this evening-length event is described in promotional materials as “skating the line between composure and chaos” that results in a production that is “at once absurd, graceful, heartbreaking and ironic.”

This quartet has been developed over the past two years and presented in previous versions across the county. Its aural accompaniment includes classic compositions by Bach, Mozart, Handel and Chopin that have been “enhanced and distorted” by Los Angeles composer Robert Amjärv.

L.A. Contemporary Dance Company has been performing locally and internationally since 2005 and has been active on the commercial dance scene as well. It has been seen at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Broad Stage, Ford Amphitheatre, L.A. Theatre Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Broad Contemporary Art Museum and Natural History Museum. Other notable performances include Lincoln Center (NYC), Kennedy Center (DC), Newman Center for the Performing Arts (Denver), ODC Theater (San Francisco), Laguna Beach Art Museum and Palm Springs Art Museum. The company has also toured globally — in Argentina and New Zealand.
