The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra performs at Disney Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Even though February is the shortest month, it is still jam-packed with great performances led by a host of world-renowned conductors at Disney Hall. Starting on Friday, Feb. 5, Herbert Blomstedt conducts the LA Phil in performances of Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, The Clock, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The program repeats Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 6 and 7.
Friday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 14, Raphael Fruhbeck de Burgos conducts the orchestra in performances of Schumann’s Rhenish Symphony, Debussy’s Nocturnes, and Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite.
On Wednesday, Feb. 17, one of the oldest and most prestigious orchestras in the world, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, under the direction of Riccardo Chailly, will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor, with Louis Lortie at the keyboard, and the Symphony No. 7 by Beethoven.
The list of world-renowned conductors resumes when Charles Dutoit returns to LA. Friday, Feb. 19, through Sunday, Feb. 21, he will conduct the orchestra in a complete performance of Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka. Also on the program is Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand with pianist Nicolai Lugansky.
Finally, Friday, Feb. 26, brings a recital by violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Jeremy Denk featuring works by Bach, Grieg, Schumann, and Ravel.
