A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Angel City Chorale (ACC) is gearing up for its 22nd annual June concerts: EPIC: Blockbuster Music From Video Games & Film on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. Culture Spot LA readers can get a pair of free tickets for either show. Email editor@culturespotla.com with ACC in the subject line (and your choice of date) for a chance to win.

Founded in 1993, Angel City Chorale is LA’s beloved multigenerational (from 20-to-80-year-olds) and multicultural large choir (150+ singers/25-member instrumental ensemble). Founder/Conductor Sue Fink started it in McCabe’s Guitar Shop with 18 singers. They just performed at LACMA’s 50th anniversary musical event, Celebrating Los Angeles.

In June, they’ll be performing music from:

FILMS:

• Frozen

• Cinema Paradiso

The Lion King

• 2001: A Space Odyssey

• Blazing Saddles (just the men’s ensemble… they did a hilarious Star Wars medley a few years back)

VIDEO GAMES:

• World of Warcraft

• Final Fantasy VIII

• Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Tetris

TV:

They’re even doing a medley of music from television, including theme songs from:

• Cheers

• Friends

• I Love Lucy

• Star Trek: The Next Generation

The evening’s songs will be performed in a variety of languages, including Russian, Latin, Italian, Swahili and Dovahzul, the Dragon Language.

Both family-friendly performances of EPIC will start at 7 p.m. at the historic Wilshire United Methodist Church (4350 Wilshire Blvd., LA 90010; map). The evening includes a 15-minute intermission, and the audience will also be invited to join the performers for a reception with light refreshments after each performance. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, with discounts for children (ages 5-12) and seniors. Advance tickets are on sale now via the ACC website here. Online ticket sales close at 7 a.m. on the day of the show. Same day tickets may be purchased at the door.
