A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Angel City Chorale, Los Angeles’ most entertaining and spirited choir, kicks off the season this year with “Joyful, Joyful,” its 20th annual holiday concert and sing-along, on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at Wilshire United Methodist Church. The 160-member Angel City Chorale will perform its unique mix of Christmas and Chanukah favorites, as well as original compositions, in the group’s eclectic combination of styles ranging from classical to pop and incorporating contemporary, world and gospel beats.  Both performances start at 7 p.m.

Praised by music writer and producer T-Bone Burnett as “one of the most engaging and entertaining evenings of music you can hear in Los Angeles,” Angel City Chorale’s concerts have become a holiday tradition for thousands of Angelenos who appreciate the chorale’s signature blend of music styles, unexpected humor and contagious warmth.

As a way of giving back to the Los Angeles community, each year in December around 100 members of Angel City Chorale also participate in the organization’s Tour of Hope, where the singers take a full program on the road, performing concerts for the homeless, elderly and others who could genuinely benefit from an infusion of holiday spirit. Over the past 15 years, ACC has sung for more than 30 service organizations around the city, donating not only the gift of music, but also food, personal items, clothing and medical supplies to those who need them most. This year, ACC’s Tour of Hope will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, fulfilling the choir’s mission of “building community one song at a time.”
