A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz presents a special contemporary dance show timed perfectly with the bicentennial of Guiseppe Verdi’s birth: Compagnia Artemis Danza’s Traviata on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Traviata is the first chapter of the three-year project Corpo a Corpo Verdi – Trittico (2011-2013) co-produced by the Verdi Festival and inspired by Verdi’s “popular trilogy.” The other two chapters are Rigoletto and Trovatore. In her creations, Monica Casadei follows “hand to hand” Verdi’s music, and consequently she is connected with the plot where the music originated. It’s a “hand to hand” with Traviata, and a “hand to hand” with Violetta’s story. Through the vigorous and energetic gestures that always characterize Monica Casadei’s language, the dancer’s body absorbs the passion, the distress and the dramatic ending of Violetta and Alfredo’s story to then give them off as a lightning conductor.
