A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz presents Clémentine Célarié’s one-woman show Dans la Peau d’un Noir (Black Like Me) on Wednesday and Thursday, May 14 and 15, at 7:30 p.m. Performed in French with English subtitles, Dans la Peau d’un Noir adapts John Howard Griffin’s famously powerful 1961 book about race in America, which found a white journalist masquerading as a black man for a journey through the then-segregated South.

Célarié transforms herself into dozens of characters for this solo show, co-directed by her son, songwriter-beat boxer Abraham Diallo. Born and raised in Dakar in sub-Saharan Africa and always attuned to matters of race, Célarié looks to reflect on both history and the present with her staged version of this groundbreaking book.

Culture Spot LA readers can win tickets. Email editor@culturespotla.com with “TRK” in the subject line and indicate your choice of May 14 or 15.
