A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Pennington Dance Group celebrates 15 years with shows at Cal State LA.

Two 15th-anniversary concerts from Pennington Dance Group, the critically acclaimed, Los Angeles-based modern dance company, will feature a combination of new choreography and the recreation of historical work, including a rare revival of Bella Lewitzky’s On the Brink of Time (1969) with music by Morton Subotnick — the first synthesized music to be commissioned and recorded for a record label. The shows will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27, on the campus of Cal State LA.

PDG is committed to artistic excellence in creating, performing and preserving the work of founding director John Pennington, and of other contemporary and past dance artists. Collaborating with visual and performing artists of note, PDG creates and performs works that contain social, emotional, political, abstract and scientific themes that appeal to a wide audience.

John Pennington, the artistic director of both PDG and ARC Pasadena, enjoyed a 14-year career with Bella Lewitzky Dance Company as a performer and teacher, serves on the faculty at Pomona College and Cal State Long Beach, and is co-director of the Lewitzky Dance Gallery.

Culture Spot LA readers can win a pair of tickets to the show on Sunday, March 27, at 2 p.m. Email editor@culturespotla.com with PDG in the subject to be entered in a drawing.
