A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

For Valentine’s Day 2020, The Montalbán in Hollywood is activating all three of its spaces—mainstage, MEZZ Gallery and rooftop—with magic, art and film, respectively.

Celebrate Valentine’s Weekend of Love with your favorite valentine inside the theater by attending TAME: Up Close And Personal starring magician Blaise Serra on Friday, Feb. 14. It kicks off at 8 p.m. on the mainstage in an intimate cabaret-style setting with the audience on stage too (it repeats on Saturday the 15th).

Or, head up to the rooftop—for the first of three nights of the venue’s Valentine’s Pop-up Screenings—to catch Casablanca, which gets underway at 7 p.m.

Start the evening in the MEZZ Gallery for the opening of Egyptian artist Marwan Shahin’s new exhibit, APEX MIRAGE. There will also be an artist meet & greet after-party in the MEZZ Gallery with Shahin and Serra, PLUS a rooftop Silent Disco on Feb. 14.

The Montálban’s Valentine’s Weekend of Love doesn’t end there… on Saturday, Feb. 15, The Notebook will screen, followed by Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Sunday, Feb. 16. Valentine’s evening’s sponsor, I’m 4 Love, a new sumptuous lip gloss line, will give all attendees a complimentary gift.

Culture Spot LA readers can win a pair of tickets to the magic show on Friday or Saturday. Email editor@culturespotla.com with “magic” in the subject line and your choice of day.

MAGIC PERFORMANCE ON THE MAINSTAGE

TAME: Up Close and Personal starring magician Blaise Serra

• Friday, Feb. 14 & Saturday, Feb. 15

• 8 – 9 p.m.

• $110 – Ace of Hearts Admission for Two includes Valentine’s Champagne Toast + gift + after-party

Following the success of the first two installments of Magic at The Montalbán with Blaise Serra’s TAME: Through a Magician’s Eyes, the venue invites the magician and mentalist back for his new interactive and intimate show, TAME: Up Close and Personal.

Serra guides his audience through a journey centered on discovering magic and where to find it in the world around us. After encountering mind reading and sleight of hand that defies explanation from this frequent Magic Castle performer, get ready to be a part of the show. Step behind the curtain to experience what it is like to read minds yourself, and have the magic happen in your own hands.

TAME: Up Close and Personal begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for this intimate performance—experienced cabaret-style on the main stage—cost $110 per couple, which includes one complimentary I’m 4 Love lip gloss plus a Valentine’s Champagne Toast and entrance to a private after-party in the MEZZ Gallery with Marwan Shahin and Blaise Serra.
