UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance brings the highly acclaimed collaboration of dance, music, text (poetry) and visual design to its Royce Hall stage for only two performances this Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb.16, at 3 p.m. Alpert Award-winning choreographer Pam Tanowitz, set designer Clifton Taylor (working with paintings by Brice Marsden) and Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho have created a unique and outstanding symbiosis of elements in “Four Quartets.”
Revolving around the T.S. Eliot poetry cycle of the same title, Tony award-nominated actress Kathleen Chalfont surrounds the 10 dancers with an aura of time, timelessness, movement and stillness generated by the words. Seen previously in theaters across the globe, this production has been described in The New York Times by dance critic Alistair Macauley as “dance theater of the highest caliber.”
Tanowitz performed in Los Angeles last season as part of the Merce Cunningham centennial event, “Night of 100 Solos.” Her company has been presented internationally, and she is the recipient of a myriad of awards and accolades.
