The choreographer, dancer, director, and Kennedy Center and MacArthur Genius Awardee Bill T. Jones is often involved in some envelope-pushing performance ideas. In “The Motherboard Suite,” he has invited a handful of similarly risk-taking dance and music makers to share their artistic perspectives with new audiences.
On Friday, Aug. 9, at 8 p.m., this eclectic group of creators will come to the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood to reveal their latest ideas for this single show. The event is a partnership between New York Live Arts and The Ford.
This cast includes composer/performer Saul Williams and choreographer/performers
Maria Bauman, Jade Solomon Curtis, Kayla Farrish, Marjani Forté-Saunders, d. Sabela grimes and Jasmine Hearn. They will be joined by Codelia King, Nayaa Opong and Aku Orraca-Tetteh, with additional choreography by Shamel Pitts.
Described in promotional materials as an exploration of “the intersection of technology and race, exploitation, and mystical anarchy,” the production is a collaboration between the movement artists and tracks from slam poet-turned musician Williams’ recent recordings, “MartyrLoserKing” and “Encrypted & Vulnerable.”
With just a hint at what may be coming, the title of the spoken word musician’s MLK effort responds to a French speaker’s mispronunciation of the civil rights leader’s name.
