A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, former members of the world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company and current choreographic artists-in-residence at the Los Angeles Dance Project’s studio, 2245, will present their evening-length “Missing Mountain” Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 12-14, at 8 p.m.

12/11 UPDATE: These shows have sold out! LA Dance Project has added two more: Thursday and Friday, Dec. 19-20.

Previously shown in this venue to sold-out audiences, the work is described in promotional materials as a collection of movement moments that were part of the 2019 creations, “Lost Mountain” and “Caldera.” Performed by members of the LA Dance Project, the earlier productions premiered in New York at the LaMama Experimental Theater and at CORPUS, of the Royal Danish Ballet. Reviewers of those events use the terms and phrases “achingly beautiful” (Fjord Magazine), “sublime” (Los Angeles Dance Review) and “oozes and shines with choreography” (Autre Magazine).

Both dancers/dancemakers, Iowa-born Smith and Israeli Schraiber recently left their multi-year commitments to Ohad Naharin’s Israeli contemporary ensemble, Batsheva, and relocated to the States. Produced both in New York and Los Angeles, their dances have also been seen at the Paris Opera Ballet. Juilliard alumna Smith has been supported by the Harkness Foundation and the Baryshnikov Art Center.
