A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

As a featured member of the faculty at USC’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, the nationally renowned choreographer Kyle Abraham has made his and his company’s presence known here in the Southland. This weekend, on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at 2 p.m., he and his company, A.I.M. (Abraham.In.Motion.), are in residence at The Wallis in Beverly Hills.

The production highlights a world premiere by NYC-based dance maker Andrea Miller in both performances. In line with A.I.M.’s mission to share choreographies by other creative contemporaries, this new work explores the relationship between physical human expression and technology in our digitized world.

Also on the program are Abraham’s “MotorRover,” which is inspired by the 1972 Merce Cunningham ensemble piece “Landrover” and “If We Were a Love Song.” This last piece is a suite of short dances set to amorous songs sung by Nina Simone.

Promotional materials describe these events as a “journey through movement, emotion and exploration [that] invites everyone to witness the intersection of tradition and innovation in the world of contemporary dance with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham.”
