The Hollywood Bowl season opens Friday, June 19, at 8:30 p.m. with celebs and fireworks. The evening kicks off with a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. This year’s honorees are legendary opera star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and internationally renowned singer Josh Groban. The first-ever Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame inductees, country music superstar Garth Brooks and iconic film score composer and conductor John Williams, will present the honors. Special guests, including 2003 Hall of Fame inductee and lead singer of The Who Roger Daltrey, Beninese singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo, famed mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, and 2005 Hall of Fame inductee and country music idol Tricia Yearwood, join Principal Guest Conductor Thomas Wilkins and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra for this musical celebration capped by a spectacular fireworks display. Proceeds from the evening support Music Matters, the LA Phil’s music education program.
Coming up at the Bowl:
- Sunday, June 21: World Music with Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Femi Kuti and the Positive Force; Santigold, whose sounds are inspired by the likes of Devo and James Brown; and soul man Raphael Saadiq. Garth Trinidad hosts.
- Friday, June 26: Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul, returns to the Hollywood Bowl for the first time in 35 years.
