A Selective Guide to the Arts in Los Angeles

Gracefully sliding into its 26th iteration of a world-renowned film festival centered on choreography created specifically for the screen, Dance Camera West runs from Thursday, Jan. 22, through Sunday, Jan. 25.

Presenting in three different locations across the city, the events include a voracious collection of 40 curated shorts representing artistic philosophies from all over the world; a tribute and gala retrospective celebrating the work of UCLA Professor Emeritus David Rousseve; a lecture, workshop and book launch with Australian author, filmmaker and professor Karen Pearlman; a documentary about San Francisco choreographer Alonzo King, with a post-screening discussion with the filmmaker and company members moderated by Loyola Marymount Professor and Dance Studies Association Executive Director Jill Nunes Jensen; and more.

Each of these outstanding films is making either its world, North American, West Coast or Los Angeles premiere. Festival Director Kelly Hargraves has nurtured what is described in promotional materials as an “innovative intersection of choreography, filmmaking and visual storytelling.”
