If you’re looking for some great music this weekend, look no further than Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the innovative performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, which presents the award-winning Paris-based trio Delgres on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m.
With musicians Pascal Danae (guitar/vocals), Rafgee (sousaphone) and Baptiste Brondy (drums/vocals), Delgres is a new breed of power trio, with foot-stomping grooves and slide guitar twang soaked in urban rhythm. Delgres’ sound is reminiscent of Ali Farka Toure, Tinariwen and the Black Keys. With a mystical, swampy blend of Mississippi delta blues, Caribbean rhythms and Big Easy funk, Delgres gives voice to their ancestors, slaves from the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe who found refuge in New Orleans.
