As is its tradition, the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater continues to bring highlights of contemporary dance to its DTLA location. This week, from Thursday, April 26, through Saturday, April 28, at 8:30 p.m., the theater will host Pina Bausch-trained, Buenos Aires-based choreographer Diana Szeinblum. Presenting the dance maker’s latest creation, “Adentro!,” a trio of performers will unleash its South American energy onto our desert soil.
Fueled by a pulsing, rhythmic sound score composed by music makers Axel Krygier and Simón Díaz, the triumvirate of performers explores the history of Argentine dances and folk material in order to create a movement vocabulary of its own. Looking at the cultural machismo and the psychosexual drama and intensity of their dance heritage, the artists have woven together a tapestry of ferocity, nuance and humor.
Sounds like this goes beyond the tango.
