Q: What do 4,600 LA-area teenagers and 35 leading cultural institutions like Geffen Playhouse, Center Theater Group, The Soraya, Pasadena Playhouse, Boston Court, Pasadena Symphony, The Armory, A Noise Within, The Autry Museum of the West, and Heidi Duckler Dance have in common?
A: They are all connected by the TeenTix Pass, a free digital pass available to all Southland teens ages 13-19 that provides access to shows, dance events, concerts and exhibits at more than 35 leading theaters, museums, and film centers for just $5 per ticket. The free TeenTix Pass is offered through TeenTix LA, a non-profit organization.
The awareness campaign for TeenTix LA launches with two special events open to all teens, who may attend either or both events, but advanced reservations are required.
First up is a jazz concert headlined by Street Symphony’s celebrated jazz and vocal ensemble, which delivers West Coast cool jazz, pop hits, gritty soul and more, on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 3 p.m., at Sierra Madre Playhouse. Also included is an exclusive private pre-concert mixer and post-concert artist talk-back. Tickets ($5) are available at www.sierramadreplayhouse.org (use code TTLANIGHT).
A week later, TeenTix LA hosts a hands-on visual arts event at Pasadena’s Armory Center for the Arts, featuring a private artist-led tour of the current photography and art exhibits, a collage workshop created specifically for TeenTix, and lunch on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. Admission is free but reservations are required; register at la.teentix.org.
Founded by the Washington-based arts, educational, and entertainment center, Seattle Center, TeenTix expanded to Los Angeles just four years ago. The LA entity currently includes more than 4,000 passholders from 500 Southland zip codes. To date, TeenTix LA has facilitated more than 2,500 $5 ticket purchases, making the arts accessible while helping cultural institutions reach a younger demographic.
TeenTix Pass companion tickets are available to passholders as well, enabling them to bring friends or family members so they can enjoy cultural events together.
