Helix Collective’s 10-piece ensemble performs game music to stunning video of game play and art from the globally popular Assassin’s Creed and Riot Games to revolutionary indie games. The music was created by a roster of BIPOC and women composers with some of the biggest talents in video game music today.

ART AND SCIENCE AT CALTECH
Crossing Over: Art and Science at Caltech, 1920–2020
Friday, Sept. 27 – Sunday, Dec. 15
In collaboration with Getty’s PST ART, Crossing Over will feature rare books, scientific instruments, molecular models, historical paintings, drawings, photographs and films on display across four exhibits, as well as installations featuring contemporary art by artists Lita Albuquerque, Lia Halloran, Shana Mabari, Hillary Mushkin, and Helen Pashgian. The exhibition unfolds across Caltech’s campus in six outdoor and indoor venues, some rarely seen by the general public. After the Sept. 27 opening reception, enjoy the exhibition Wednesday –Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A NOISE WITHIN
A Noise Within opens its 2024-25 “True Grit” season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning, time-bending comic romp The Skin of Our Teeth. Various cataclysmic events serve as a backdrop for a hilarious and thought-provoking exploration of human resilience by three-time Pulitzer winner Thornton Wilder. After 5,000 years of marriage, George and Maggie Antrobus and their children have faced ice ages, floods and war, but the family perseveres with humor, ingenuity… and a pet dinosaur. This iconic play is a riveting testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity.
The four-week run is set to open Sept. 7 and continue through Sept. 29, with four low-priced previews taking place Sept. 1 through Sept. 6.

LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra launches its 2024/25 season on Sept. 28 and 29 with Romantics: Schubert’s Trout, the first of two intimate programs in the Orchestra’s Chamber Series curated by Concertmaster and Director of Chamber Music Margaret Batjer.
Renowned pianist Juho Pohjonen joins LACO artists to perform two seminal keyboard works from the Romantic era, Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major and Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, “Trout.” The program opens with Schumann’s Three Romances, an enduring oeuvre dedicated to his wife Clara written just as he began to succumb to madness.
