The next concert in the Coleman Chamber Music Association’s 2023–2024 season takes place this Sunday, Nov. 12, at 3:30 p.m. in Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium in Pasadena.
The Castalian String Quartet will perform:
Beethoven: Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130
Janácek: Quartet No. 1, “Kreutzer Sonata”
Mendelssohn: Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80
Formed in 2011, the Castalian Quartet has distinguished itself as one today’s most dynamic young quartets. Appointed the inaugural Hans Keller String Quartet in Residence at the Oxford University Faculty of Music in 2021, it also received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2019 Young Artists Award. The name is derived from the Castalian Spring in the ancient city of Delphi. In mythology, the nymph Castalia transformed herself into a fountain to evade Apollo, creating a source of poetic inspiration for all who drink from her waters.
