On Saturday, March 27, at 2 p.m., the Brand Library will host an opera talk on “Die Gezeichneten” (The Stigmatized), a late-Romantic tragedy by Franz Schreker. The talk will be given by Los Angeles Opera Speaker Bureau member Fred Hyatt. Admission is free.
“The Stigmatized” will run at LA Opera, as part of Music Director James Conlon’s Recovered Voices series dedicated to composers silenced by the Nazis, on April 10, 18, 22 and 24. This will be the first Western production of a Schreker opera. Previous productions in this series have been outstanding: welcomed additions to the repertoire, gorgeously rendered for the stage.
Brand Library is located at 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale. Call (818) 548-2051 for additional information. If you go, check out the art gallery too.
Before that opera opens, LA Opera’s Ring Cycle continues with “Götterdämmerung” on April 3, 11, 17, 21 and 25. If you missed any of the first three productions, you can see “Das Rheingold,” “Siegfried,” Die Walkure,” and “Götterdämmerung” in May and June as part of the Ring Festival, a celebration that includes a number of other events and venues around LA.
